Membership by Accredited Prior Learning
In some circumstances the Institute will accept proof of competence as a route into membership. If you are already a book-keeper but are not qualified, or your qualifications were taken too long ago to be acceptable for entry by exemption, you should provide the names and addresses of two Chartered Accountants to whom the Institute can write for references. Once your application is received, the Institute will send a detailed specification to each referee, asking them to tick off each area of the syllabus in which they are willing to testify that you are competent. Referees are required to sign the specification and confirm their own qualification, which will be verified with the relevant institute before the reference is processed.
You are not required to register as a student to apply for membership by accredited prior learning but you are required to pay an exemption fee once your application is approved.
