Money laundering guidance delayed again

Guidance for Accountancy Service Providers (ASPs) under the Money Laundering Regulations (MLR) has been further delayed. Members of the bookkeeping, accountancy and payroll professions and HMRC have agreed to adopt the money laundering guidance that has been written by the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB). Unfortunately this has still to be ratified by HM Treasury.

“This is an unfortunate further delay”, says Institute chief executive, Garry Carter. “However, the delay is due to workload at the Treasury rather than any problems with the guidance and we fully anticipate it receiving ratification in the not too distant future. Meanwhile members can still use the guidance until such time as it has been approved”.

Members are being encouraged to read the Institute’s own guidance which has been written by the head of professional standards, Professor Mark Watson-Gandy. This guidance is particularly pertinent to Institute members and should be read in conjunction with the more detailed CCAB guidance.
